Bishop D’Arcy Program | McGrath Institute For Church Life

Project Overview

The Bishop John M. D’Arcy Program in Priestly Renewal at the University of Notre Dame’s McGrath Institute for Church Life provides a profound experience of intellectual and spiritual renewal for diocesan priests. When the Institute needed to translate this curriculum into an accessible digital format, they partnered with Keys and Cross Media to produce the video presentations.

The goal was straightforward: deliver elite-level spiritual and pastoral development to priests nationwide without the distractions of an overly complex, heavy-handed production.

Our Approach: Intentional Simplicity & Multi-Cam Pacing

For educational and formational content, the focus must always remain on the speaker and the message. We approached this project with a highly efficient, minimalist production footprint, capturing the entire video series in a streamlined 1-2 day shoot.

Rather than relying on flashy visuals or sweeping camera movements, we utilized a clean, multi-cam setup. This approach gave us the flexibility in post-production to actively listen to the lectures and cut between angles to mirror the natural tonality of the speaker. When a point was theological and expansive, we held the wider shots; when the speaker leaned into a deeply personal or challenging pastoral reality, we punched into a tighter, more intimate angle.

The Impact

By prioritizing an unobtrusive set and intentional editing, we ensured the final product felt less like a static lecture and more like a dynamic, engaging conversation.

The Bishop D’Arcy Program Video Series now serves as a robust professional development tool. Complete with guided reflection handouts, the video library allows the McGrath Institute to scale their reach, providing vital ongoing education and a renewed sense of communion to the priesthood during times of immense pastoral challenge.
